Just last year my 90 year-old Grandmother gave me all of her fabrics and craft supplies...
I can't even BEGIN to tell you how much stuff that is!
She requested only one thing of me
And that was to make a quilt for my cousin Rachel's little girl for Christmas
Her name is Violet (adorable) and my Grandmother had already picked out a bunch of pretty fabrics with purple and lavender and, duh, violet to make it with.
I was so excited about this project!
The fabrics she picked out were amazing and I couldn't wait to get started!
Here is little Violet with the finished product
A toddler-bed sized quilt made ESPECIALLY for her!
Grace (my daughter) and Violet are only a month apart! (Violet is older)
Here's a pic of them together at our Grandmother's 90th Birthday Party
(Sept 29th 2011)
So after much deliberation I finally decided on a design and scheme for Violet's rag quilt
Here is the pattern I used
It is so easy and great for someone who wants to start quilting, or is new to it!

I went with violet, teal and lavender all together. I love this color scheme anyway so making the quilt was even more enjoyable
Got the layer all stacked, pinned and ready to sew
Making these quilts can be sort of tedious, but I still love it
I get very OCD when making these rag quilts...
Everything has to be just so...
see?
Getting ready to stack these layers together and pin them up now
And...... Done!
I was just giddy with excitement about getting this all put together!
Ok! I've got the strips all done, now It's time to attach them!
Pinned...
So close to being done!
Here's Claymore being a turd like always,
Does anyone else have a cat that's just too obsessed with craft supplies?!
Thankfully the quilt has to be washed three or four times after all the sewing is done, so no kitty dander or hair was remaining.
(And really, how can you be mad at that sweet little fluffy white belly?)
Wow, We are nearly done! Now I just have to stitch around the edges and snip snip snip....
Very time consuming...
Thank God for Coffee!
It seems to have been a big hit!
Love this sweet face!!!
You can really see the frayed edges here,
That's what makes these quilts so insanely cozy and warm!
Thanks for letting me share these pics of your sweet baby girl Rachel!
I've made a bunch of other rag quilts and those will be posted soon enough!
I'm waiting for more pics from a girlfriend of her son with his quilt i made him.

What a beautiful quilt! I love those purple floral prints! Thanks for sharing at Gettin' Krafty! Can't wait to see what you've been up to this week!
Wow! I hope to be brave enough to make a quilt someday, but I'm still a bit intimidated by the sheer amount of work you have to put into it and the mathematical accuracy needed for the design to turn out right. This one looks great!
Love the quilt! Typical kitty; mine would do the same thing. Thank you for sharing this at my Make it Pretty Monday party at The Dedicated House. Hope to see you again on Monday. Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse
