Things I Learned Yesterday

Yesterday I kept Tristan out of school by request of my Dad and his wife, Linda.

(and before I hear anything about it being irresponsible to keep him out when he's not sick,
let me say that some of my fondest memories are of my mom keeping me out for a "mental health day"
and it never did me any harm.
in moderation i believe this is a good practice.)

Anywho.
We went to spend the day having a picnic at Hamburg State Park
I had never been there before and it's a really nice park.
Seeing as it was a tuesday the place was completely quiet and empty.
Which was ideal.
Because Maggie-Moo got to run around free!!
I learned that she was supposed to be on a 6 ft leash in the park
But what the park doesn't know doesn't hurt them.

I learned that Tristan is super awesome at throwing sticks at and into trees.

I learned (after being told repeatedly) that Bunny "LOVE[S] THIS!" playground

I also learned it is incredibly easy to get completely filthy dirty when you are 2 and playing at the park.

I learned that My Maggie is CRAZY FAST in the water
and feels the need to eat it when it splashes her face.

I learned that my husband can skip rocks like a freakin' pro.
It's quite impressive, really.
All those years of childhood baseball translated i suppose.

I learned that my dad has some seriously white legs.
JK,  I've always known that.
hahaha

I learned that Maggie likes "Bandad's" boat

I learned that these paddles are handy because the trolling motor battery went out a couple times and he had to row.

I learned that my husband may have a new job opportunity on the horizon.
Here he is telling my dad about it.

 Lastly,
I learned that there was a good reason for us to be invited on this picnic.
This coming weekend marks the day my dad and Linda got back together after being out of touch for 17 years.  They had been high school sweethearts and broke up at which point he moved up to GA from FL and met my mom and married her.  14 years later they split and not long after that these two goofs got back in touch and rekindled their love for one another.
being both older and wiser.

They wanted to share this occasion with us and we were so pleased and flattered to be there with them and spend a "mental health day" celebrating family at the park.

This was such an informative and relaxing day.
We all had the chance to let go of all things bothering or stressing us
and got to just BE for a day.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Phillipians 4:6-7 (ESV)

oh, and one more thing.....  I learned that when you go for a hike on the "RED TRAIL"

you get ticks.....
lots and lots of them...
lol

Have you been to visit your local state park recently?

What a great day! I had to laugh about getting dirty on the playground. My 5 year old and 2 year old always come home so dirty and I am always amazed.

What an incredibly lovely day and an equally lovely post. I thought it was sweet and the bit about learning your dad's legs are really white...well, that made me giggle.
